A message from Suzanne:
It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my mentor, my teacher and my friend Vaz Rogbeck (1944-2010).
He has been my teacher for the past 6 years and conducting our teacher training program here in Tallahassee
with his partner Sara for the past 3 years. I cannot express with words how much he will be missed.
I look forward to honoring his teachings and his spirit through yoga. It is what he would want.
Om Shanti Vaz.
Welcome to the Journeys In Yoga yoga teacher training page!
Yoga Alliance 200 and 500 hour yoga teacher training program
with Radiant Transitions 2010 program details
Are you interested in becoming a yoga teacher? Are you already a yoga teacher and are looking for a nationally recognized certification? Perhaps you have 200 hours of YA training and are looking to advance into your 500 hour? Maybe you just want to deepen your personal practice? Then this training is for you!
The Radiant Transitions School of Yoga at Journeys in Yoga offers both the Yoga Alliance 200 and 500 hour yoga teacher training programs here in Tallahassee. The 200 hour consists of 9- 20 hour weekends and the 500 hour consists of 14- 20 hour weekends. The 500 hour program is currently is session; a new session will begin in 2012. The 200 hour program is ongoing and students can join at any time.
You will learn about postures, history, philosophy, breath work and meditation, as well as other helpful information to assist you on your teaching journey. At the completion of this training you will be a certified yoga teacher and you will be qualified to register with the Yoga Alliance (yogaalliance.org),the only international registry of yoga teachers and yoga teacher training schools. The Yoga Alliance is the leader in developing curriculums and standards to train and professionally educate yoga teachers worldwide.
Location: Journeys In Yoga studio at 111 South Magnolia Drive Suite 33 in Tallahassee
The trainers: This training will be brought to you by the Radiant Transitions (radianttransitions.com) School of Yoga based in Tampa Florida, a Yoga Alliance Registered school. Sara Devi (CYT1000), owner and founder of Radiant Transitions Yoga Teacher Training, has decades of experience in all aspects of yoga. She offers all of her knowledge while fostering discussion and providing a supportive medium in which to learn. We will also carry on the traditions and knowledge of our recently departed Vaz, who was the co-owner and co-founder of RT-YTT program. Suzanne Harrell (E-RYT500), owner of Journeys in Yoga, joins Sara in sharing her knowledge of yoga and passing on to others what she has learned from all of her teachers.
Format: The basic training curriculum is set by the Yoga Alliance and Radiant Transitions has followed their guidelines to ensure that you will meet the qualifications to register with that organization upon completion of the program. The training will be over 9 (200 hour) or 14 (500 hour) weekends, occurring once a month (usually the second weekend of the month), each lasting Friday through Sunday for a total of 20 hours for the weekend.
Each workshop contains a specific number of hours in technique, methodology, anatomy, philosophy and practicum as defined by Yoga Alliance. The 500 hour includes a specific focus on the therapeutic applications of yoga. Full attendance at each workshop is required. If you are unable to attend a workshop in Tallahassee, you may attend workshops offered in Tampa or Leesburg (you may be charged a higher price to attend in Leesburg, contact that school directly for more info). We will also schedule make up sessions in Tallahassee for those in need of training hours.
For the 200 hour program, it is not required that you start at the beginning of our training. You may begin at any time during the year, understanding that you are required to have 180 contact hours for the 200 hour from the same school in order to become certified and then register with the Yoga Alliance. This may mean that your training will roll into the next year. The 500 hour training session will begin a new session in 2012. We encourage students to complete the training within 18 months of beginning.
Times:
Friday from 7 pm to 10 pm (3 hours)
Saturday from 9 am to 7:30 pm (10.5 hours)
Sunday from 9 am to 4 pm (7 hours, the extra 1/2 hour is for lunch)
Style of Yoga: A blend of breath work, meditation and postures based in flow and Ashtanga styles of yoga. However, this training will give you the skills to create your own style or to draw on other styles of yoga that speak to you. You will be well prepared to teach group asana (posture) classes.
