A message from Suzanne:

Things are so busy at the studio and we certainly feel blessed and honored.  Your support of the studio means so much to us and its success is due to YOU (and the fabulous teachers I have!)!!  We have grown beyond our wildest dreams.  The new year is when this industry is at its height and we are certainly feeling the effects of that.  We are doing our best to keep up and appreciate your patience during the sign in process.  Remember to breathe!!  And we will too!  : )  If you have ideas on how to make it easier, please email me and let me know.   Know that we are working on making the process better.

All of our classes are first come first serve.  We can fit 40 in the sun room and 30 in the moon room.   Please come early especially if you are new or need to buy a pass.   Our hot yoga classes are the most packed.  Be kind and respectful to your fellow yogis as we try to make space for everyone.

When we come together in large groups to share yoga the positive energy we generate in our practice is multiplied many times over when we practice alone, so it is a great gift we are all sharing.  Yoga rocks!  Thanks everyone!  Namaste', Suzanne

(ps: If you have a group of at least 5 people who can commit to another class time, like mornings, lunch or early afternoon, let me know as we will consider adding a class.)

Announcements:

  • **NEW** Donation class starts on 3/7/2010 and will be every Sunday from 12 pm to 1 pm through June.  This class will be taught by teachers in our teacher training program, supervised by a teacher with at least 200 hours of teacher training.  Style of class and experience of teacher will vary week to week so come with an open mind.  Give these up and coming new teachers much needed teaching experience and contribute to a great cause at the same time!  100% of proceeds go to the American Red Cross.
  • Starting April 4, 2010 Jessa's Sunday 630 pm Open Flow 2 class will move to Sunday at 1pm.  Hopefully this time change will work better for people so they can experience this flowing, vigorous, fun class!  The 630 pm time slot will be cancelled as of that date.
  • As of January 1, 2010 Journeys will accept credit and debit cards!  WOW!!  However, in order for us to do this without raising our package prices, the first class will no longer be free.  It will be half price though: $5.00, so new folks can still try out the studio for a reduced rate.
  • Upcoming subs:
Sadly Teresa's grandfather and Stacey's mother in law both passed away this weekend.  Our condolences go out to them and to their families.  Also,  Jessa is out of town and Suzanne has not been feeling well!  Thanks to all the other teachers for jumping in to help out during this time.

Class Descriptions:

  • Intro Flow:  An introduction to the core yoga poses that serve as the foundation for a yoga practice, this class is great for beginners and advanced students alike.  The emphasis is on proper alignment and awareness of the breath in each pose.  Suitable for all levels.  Room is not heated.
  • Open Flow I:  Pairing postures with breath we create a moving meditation (flow!) while improving our strength, flexibility and balance. Prior yoga experience is helpful, since we move fluidly from pose to pose, but this class is open to all levels.  Room may be warm.
  • Open Flow II:  A more intense version of Open Flow I, this class is an invigorating, creative flow class with an emphasis on poses that require strength and stamina, with lots of room for individual expression.  Arm balances, core work, inversions and partner yoga (Sundays) will be explored.  Experience with the Sun Salutations helpful.
  • Fire Flow I and II:  A Journeys in Yoga original!  This class offers an original sequence which combines  Hot, Flow, and Ashtanga yoga styles to offer a unique and powerful practice.  Fire Flow I is for all levels and will offer detailed cues and instruction for each pose, while Fire Flow II is for experienced practitioners who are looking for a more self-directed exploration of the poses.  Room is hot.
  • Core Flow:  A flow class with emphasis on the core, open to all levels but is vigorous, room is not heated.
  • Hot:  A very powerful series of standing and floor poses, all done with no flow or Sun Salutations. We do the same poses each week in a heated room, along with breath work.  This class is a work out, yet it is suitable for all levels looking for a hot, vigorous practice.  Room is heated to 102 degrees.   (90 min.)
  • Ashtanga:  The primary series, this style of yoga developed in India by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois is the foundation from which flow yoga is built. Experience with the Sun Salutations recommended.   Room is warm.  Vigorous!  (90 min.)
  • Ashtanga Remix:   A creative blend of the primary (first) and intermediate (second) series of Ashtanga in the tradition of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois.  This is a fluid class where poses are connected with vinyasa and synchronizing breath and movement is emphasized.  This is a vigorous class, but all levels are welcome as many modifications will be explored. Room is very warm to hot.
  • Yin:  A yin yoga class designed to stretch the deep connective tissues of the body, the joints and ligaments. Each pose is held for several minutes and the focus is on allowing the body to open at its natural pace. This is a mellow class that is suitable for all levels and the room is not heated.
  • Gentle Yoga:  This class is for those wanting a nice stretch with no strain!  For all levels, it is especially great for pregnancy, if you are new to yoga or if you have taken some time off from yoga and want to ease back in mentally and physically.  Room is not heated.
  • Kids Yoga:  For kids age 5 to 12, fun yoga games and imagery define this creative and playful approach to introducing kids to yoga, as they learn self expression through movement.  This class runs concurrently with an adult class so you can get your yoga in while your kids do theirs!
  • Donation class:  This one hour, all levels, donation based class will be taught by Journeys In Yoga's teachers in training.  The teachers in training will be supervised by a teacher with at least 200 hours of teacher training.  Style will vary based on the teacher, as will experience, so come with an open mind ready to have some fun.  This is a chance for you to contribute to a local charity while providing valuable experience and feedback to our up and coming new teachers. 100% of proceeds go to charity.
  •

Note:  all classes are approximately 75 minutes unless otherwise noted
