Meet the Journeys' teachers!

Suzanne Harrell:

Suzanne has been practicing yoga since 1995. She got her start with Bikram yoga in Clearwater Florida and was bitten by the yoga bug! A few years later she started practicing Ashtanga yoga and has practiced Iyengar, Kundalini, Vinyasa, Yin, Power..... really Suzanne loves to attend yoga classes from any discipline: there is always something to learn, something to be gained from every teacher.  Through her exposure to the many different styles of yoga offered in the US, Suzanne has recognized and embraced that there are so many paths to healing; that in yoga there really is something for everyone!

Suzanne’s non-yoga background is in social work: she is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has spent all of her professional life working in the mental health field. The blend of social work and yoga was a natural one for her.  Not only are both about healing, but both are about service.  Both professions have also brought to her scores of courageous people who have touched her life in so many different ways, and who continue to remind her every day to find her own courage.

Suzanne got her start teaching when her Bikram yoga teacher, Cecily, allowed her to train and teach under her in 1997. To share with others what had been shared with her was so appealing!  She took some time off from this brief teaching experience to move to and settle in the Tallahassee area. The desire to teach still with her, she began teaching again in earnest in 2003 with Kelly Dugger at Bodies In Balance in Wakulla county.  Suzanne continued to teach in Wakulla until opening Journeys in Yoga in 2007.  She was also fortunate to teach at Prana Power Yoga in Tallahassee from 2005 to 2007.

In 2005, Suzanne became a registered yoga teacher (RYT) when she completed the Yoga Alliance 200 hour teacher training at Stillpoint Studios in Tampa.  She completed the 500 hour Yoga Alliance teacher training with Stillpoint in 2007.  Suzanne is also registered with the Yoga Alliance as an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT) at the 500 hour level, with well over 2,000 teaching hours under her belt since 2005.  In 2009, Suzanne completed 80 hours of The Barkan Method advanced hot yoga teacher training with Jimmy Barkan.

Suzanne was born and raised in the military and spent her childhood living in many places, including Germany. She and most of her family have migrated to the warmer climates of Florida. She resides in Wakulla county with her husband and their many pets.

Brigette Davidovici:

"Yoga is something that I simply could not live without. I first started yoga about 8 years ago for therapeutic reasons after having reconstructive spinal surgery. It was one of the only forms of physical movement that could give me strength and flexibility, all the while being gentle and with low impact. Where I am today, I could only be through the benefits and patience yoga has given me. After starting yoga, I was able to not only soothe my injuries, but also to exceed even my own expectations of physical movement I was allowed. Yoga has helped me in a way that I will always be grateful for, so I am honored to help bring it to anyone else who'd like it. I first decided to start teaching about a year ago and have been teaching at Florida State University's Leach Center Gym, where I am currently a senior, getting a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Acting. I am so happy and grateful to be able to teach with such amazing people, to wonderful students in a beautiful studio."

Ginny Osborn:

"My mom, a long-time yogini, introduced me to yoga in the winter of 1999 when I realized that my love of running and swimming would be put on hold during my time in the Peace Corps. She mailed me a little book "Yoga 28 day exercise plan" and I followed it diligently. After returning home, I began studying and practicing yoga in a studio, but it always came second to my athletic endeavors. I realized over time that I always rely on yoga to get me through situations whether it be stress or injury so I decided to get certified and make yoga a priority in my life.  My husband and I moved here from Arkansas to pursue degrees at FSU. I'm currently finishing up my PhD in French and trying to spread the yoga bug to my friends and colleagues on campus. "

Jackie Britt-Mills:

“I started practicing yoga in 1997 striving for a healthy and balanced lifestyle. After my first class, I knew I was on the right path. My yoga background is in Ashtanga and Vinyasa; however, I have enjoyed many different styles and teachers over the years. I moved to Tallahassee with my husband and son Zander in 2004 and found an embracing yoga community here. I completed the Yoga Alliance 200 hour Radient Transitions teacher training program  offered at Journeys in Yoga in 2009. My educational background focused on sociology. My interest in people's well-being and my passion for yoga has guided me to share the love and light of a yoga practice with others. I started leading classes at Journeys in Yoga in the summer of 2007. Yoga provides me with the strength, balance, flexibility and lightness of being that I need to move through life. Yoga helps me to find the light that keeps me positive. Everyone is a student and a teacher, both on and off the mat. I am grateful for all of my teachers.”

Sonia Nalon:

"My experience of yoga began decades ago, but I got serious about it in the early 90s. Later, when working in a sick and moldy building
compromised my health, I used my practice as therapy for body, breath and spirit. After I made my recovery, I jumped into teacher training at Discovery Yoga in St. Augustine in 2006. It changed the direction of my life. The month after I got my RYT-200 certificate, I started their 500-hour Level 2 program. During the three years I've been teaching yoga classes in Tallahassee (at the WeMoon Center, Namaste Yoga, Mama & Baby Love/Yoga Love, Universal Yoga and various private settings), I've also had the privilege to study with some fantastically gifted teachers. This work, study and practice saved my life in a car accident that happened in September 2007. Again, yoga empowered me to take control of the healing, understand what I needed at each stage and have the courage to work through the trauma to release it. I'm grateful to be able to share yoga's healing powers with my students.
With BA & MA degrees in Spanish from Florida State I worked as an editor, classroom teacher, journalist and translator, before yoga took over."

Stacey Abbott:

Stacey grew up as a dancer and an athlete, so when she first discovered yoga in 1998, it was love at first down-dog—at last, something that combined the grace and beauty of dance with the strength and endurance of athletics!   Her playful yet skillful approach encourages self-exploration with a light heart in order to remind students of the amazing space and strength their bodies and minds already possess.  Stacey strives to offer yoga as a means of transformation and growth from the inside out, showing students how to translate the gifts of yoga for use during the physical practice as well as out in the wide world.  She honors her students with her own consistent practice and teaches from that place of experience.  She is a certified Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga instructor through the San Francisco-based school system It’s Yoga, www.itsyoga.com.

Stacey and her husband, Adam relocated to Tallahassee from Las Vegas in 2007. She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and also taught English courses there.  Currently she teaches English at Tallahassee Community College.  Stacey is thankful for the opportunity to share in the vibrant spirit of the Journeys In Yoga community.
